Dilapidation, or living museum?

Planning a trip to Venice raises all sorts of issues in the 'Stephens' household.

There are those who loathe the place... shabby, smelly, dirty... and who refuse to go back.

And those amongst us who only see the history, architecture, the music and the art.

My new book coming out this summer in the UK and Australia is set in Venice, and so I'll leave you to make up your own mind! I show a not very flattering picture of the city next to my book cover showing the much more glamorous Rialto Bridge. Perhaps it more honest to say that Venice is a city of contrasts. (and I love them all)
