Courage...

Took a really long break at lunchtime today to watch Ellen Macarthur sailing into Falmouth harbour after circumnavigating the globe.
What heroism and courage. What an inspiration to everyone of us.

I was lucky enough a few years ago to watch the yachts sailing out on the Volvo Ocean challenge so I know how colossal these brutes are, and to think of one woman of 5 foot 2, handling something 70 feet by 50 feet alone for so long, is absolutely mind-boggling.

Having followed the Volvo boats for a mile or so in a powerboat I followed their progress subsequently on the internet.
I so wanted to write a book...
Yep, you know that feeling!
But apparently books about sailors aren't all that popular. Too salty, perhaps?!
OK, poor joke... But it didn't do Hornblower any harm, now did it? (Books about sailors, I mean!)
Let's get up a petition for more books about salty heroes... If you had seen those hunky men standing high up on the mast and whatever the cross bits are called (my apologies to the sailors amongst you, I'm too tired to research right now) as the yachts sailed out you'd want a book too, believe me!

Following my thoughts on PACE yesterday... if your scene doesn't serve a real and valuable purpose, cut it out.And that's my last word to all of you, my friends, for today!

Love to all, and happy reading!
Susan

waves to sue. i told you i came by from time to time!!!! and now i will be waiting impatiently for your salty sailor book. btw since my favourite hobby is reading the tv guide (sadly, i'm not joking!) i did happen to notice that the 1951 film version of horatio hornblower in on thursday at 1.05pm on bbc2. hey, i wonder if that's my talent - someone picks a topic and i find the appropriate tv show for it? hmmmmm, maybe not. anyway i'd better get back to work

Hugs Amanda! Greet to see you here!

Don't hold your breath for salty heroes... I doubt I can twist any arms- leastways, not those holding the cheque book!

What a shame. We're talking real hard men here... Sorry Ellen, because you really are the best of the best- even if you don't have hairy legs.
(And if you do, it's allowed after all that time at sea!)
