Exciting Times...

Most of my good writing buddies are away at the RNA conference being held at Leicester university this weekend. I can't go as my youngest is seventeen on Sunday, and the whole gang, plus numerous chums are all arriving in relays from today onwards. I just know they will be in sore need of feeding. So it's 'stand by the Aga' for me!

The 'Exciting Times' banner refers not just to the party, but to the really thrilling news that two of my best writing buds are very very close to being signed by new publishers.
I can't tell you who they are until they give me the go ahead, of course- but I am so thrilled for them.
A lot of you out there know what hangs on this- it's almost impossible to describe how it feels to be waiting for 'the call', and when it comes- as I know it will for both of them- there's no feeling quite like that either.

I often say writing has many similarities to my previous career as a professional singer, but there is one substantial difference. The world of the professional singer is highly competetive, and you have to be pretty thick-skinned to stay the course. Writers are treading just the same emotional tightrope, but somehow we hang together, support each other through bad times and good, and feel a genuine rush of pleasure when one of our number has a success.
I am so thrilled for my two friends- actually, I've just thought of another chum who is very close to signing for Harlequin- so, all I'm going to say to those of you I don't get to meet in person is: people do get signed, and if you believe in yourself and your manuscript, never give up, because you can be one of them.
Love to all, and happy reading as well as writing!
Susan
